Mile-High Cinco de Mayo

April 02, 2017

Originally a celebration of Mexican sovereignty and the power of the Mexican people to rid their country of foreign oppression, today Cinco de Mayo is observed even beyond Mexico’s borders as a celebration of freedom and the richness of Mexican culture. On May 6 and 7 this year, Denver will host its 30th annual Cinco de Mayo “Celebrate Culture” Festival. Around 400,000 people are expected at Civic Center Park for live music and dancing lasting well into the night, including Salsa, Mariachi, Norteno, and other Latin genres. You’ll marvel at Mexican folk art displays and handcrafted wares from local artisans, not to mention the more than 350 vendors serving up the spiciest Mexican fare. The entertainment’s not just for adults either. Kids will love the Children’s Carnival, which will feature thrilling rides and lots of hands-on fun.

Address: Civic Center Park, 101 W. 14th Ave., Denver, CO
